Migrant Education Program (MEP)

by | Mar 8, 2022

Your child may be eligible for the Migrant Education Program!

  • Did you move from one school district to another within the previous 36 months?
  • Was the purpose to seek or obtain work?
  • Was it seasonal or temporary, agricultural, or fishing work?

If the answer is yes to these questions, please contact the Migrant Education Program, a program through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI)!

Benefits of MEP (Services)

  • Preschool services or referrals to local preschool programs
  • Literacy and mathematics instruction
  • Credit accrual and leadership opportunities (i.e., college or career readiness activities), for students under age 22 with no GED or high school diploma
  • Student record exchange via the Migrant Student Information Exchange (MSIX) multi-state database
  • Nutritional services
  • Referrals to medical, dental, and other community services

Why DPI Interviews Families

  • We want to provide support
  • Children must be identified by a state MEP “recruiter” to be eligible for services
  • All information is confidential
  • Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis, so the recruiter needs to know your story, in particular, to verify your children are eligible.

Regional Summer Program

The summer MEP supplements district-based summer school programs in five regions throughout the state. Please reach out to DPI staff for more information about summer programs in your area or visit the MEP website
